This is incredible. Now excuse me, but if a murdered body was found in your backyard, do you really think the police would immediately rule you out of any suspicion? Does it mean that the Royal Family are exempt from prosecution in homicide cases? When did that law come to pass?

Haven’t we encountered a similar situation with the McCanns? Weren’t the McCanns impervious from prosecution and surrounded by similar blind-support of innocence?

The New Year’s Day story came at an appropriate time for Truth for Madeleine. Late in 2011 an alleged, credible source in British intelligence communicated information that would seem to finally explain why the McCanns were given assistance from the highest echelons of the Establishment.

For almost five years, followers of the Madeleine McCann mystery have debated back and forth wondering why the British Establishment stepped in to assist the Tapas 9 in a way never seen before. There have been many missing British children. There have been missing British children abroad. Many Brits have found themselves in legal pickles abroad but they have never had the red carpet treatment. Not, that is, until the McCann Roadshow came along.

A vast array of former policemen spoke of the McCanns’ innocence without having full knowledge of the circumstances. Murdoch owned newspapers like the Sun and the News of the World fawned over Kate and Gerry. Private planes were brought in to ferry the McCanns around like they were superstars. Gerry was nominated for “Scot of the Year” and both he and his wife were on first name terms with two successive British Prime Ministers.

None of it made sense.

When the police file became public in the summer of 2008 we learned that the Portuguese Police were far from the bungling Keystone Cops they were made out to be. They were diligent, thorough, and they were hampered because of an interfering British Government. Evidence was withheld from the Portuguese. A semen sample suddenly turned into a saliva sample after the British Forensic Science Service looked at it. The samples were, in turn, destroyed by the FSS so the investigators have no chance of a second opinion. The McCanns’ financial and medical details were withheld by British government intervention. Bombshell testimony implicating Gerry McCann and David Payne as potential paedophiles was deliberately withheld from Portugal for about five months.

The investigation was never botched by Portugal. Moreover, it was an investigation that was controlled and steered in one direction from day one by the British Establishment. This has never been in doubt as the Portuguese confirmed the presence of MI6 throughout their enquiries in 2007 and 2008.

Forum debaters and amateur sleuths spent hours trying to figure out what was so special about the McCanns. McCann benefactors were scrutinized and their backgrounds explored in an effort to find out why these child-neglecting parents were being let off the hook so easily. There were obvious Freemason connections, pharmaceutical connections, paedophilia connections and hundreds of other possible reasons why the McCanns and their friends were not being investigated properly.

Despite all this, one thing was certain: Gerry McCann had the British Establishment over a barrel. He had some kind of explosive information that was ensuring freedom for him and his wife Kate. This information was so damning that it was to create a gross miscarriage of justice.

Poor little Madeleine was forgotten. The case became a battle against prosecution for Kate and Gerry.

The information received here at TFM is damning but credible. It explains a lot about the case but it requires more study. I can’t reveal the name or contact details of the source and the reader will have to take it for what it is.

The gist of the bombshell information received here is this: Gerry McCann is privy to information implicating the Royal Family in the murder of Princess Diana. This was his leverage.

Let’s look at this chronologically:

Madeleine dies in the first week of May 2007. Reputations and careers would be in tatters, not to mention jail terms for child abuse and possibly murder.

Frantic phone calls and text messages are made back to England and Gerry has his famous “tunnel vision” incident in the church in Praia da Luz. Disclosed later in an interview with Catholic Magazine “The Tablet”, the “tunnel” was his cryptic reference to the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. Gerry said “I had this mental image of being in a tunnel and instead of the light at the end of the tunnel being extremely narrow and a distant spot, the light opened up…That is when I really felt I had a clear path.”

Gerry did have a clear path. A path that resulted in the British Government assigning Clarence Mitchell to the case on Monday, May 7, 2007.

Sir Tim Bell (now Lord Bell) offered one of his lackeys to assist the McCanns for two weeks until Mitchell was ready to go out to Portugal. This was a pressure time for the McCanns. Daily interviews were taking place and Praia da Luz had become an overnight media circus. In addition, the police were conducting interviews with those present at the time of the disappearance.

Assurances that the Establishment were taking the McCann threat seriously were already coming in. British diplomats in Portugal were being manipulated. Pro-Royal, Murdoch started to spin pro-McCann stories on Sky and in his newspapers. Former cops were drafted in as pro-McCann spin-doctors who blindly asserted that Madeleine’s parents were innocent of anything.

By the time Mitchell arrived in Portugal three weeks after Madeleine’s disappearance, Gerry needed assurances from the Establishment that he was being taken seriously. To this end, Prince Charles and Camilla made a press release that came out of Clarence House on May 27, 2007. They were giving their full support. The single sentence press release said

“The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall said they had been following the case of missing Madeleine McCann “closely and with deep concern” and “fervently hoped” she would be reunited with her family.” Another indication of Royal influence came from McCann in his blog when he wrote “The rest of us attended mass which was very emotional as a priest from RAF Lossiemouth was visiting and further prayers were said for Madeleine.”

RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland is a significant location for Prince Charles having been flown there as a boy when he attended school at Gordonstoun which is just a mile from the military base.

June was when the McCanns did the bulk of their Grand European Tour and a plethora of Sirs and Lords appeared on the scene. Sir Richard Branson, Sir Philip Green, Sir Tom Hunter, Sir Christopher Meyer, Lord Stevens and not forgetting that Lord Tim Bell had already given his support the previous month. The connection between these people is that they were all endorsed by the Royal Family. They were knighted by the Queen. While the credentials of these people were discussed on the Internet, everyone overlooked the fact that the benefactors had all been honoured by the Royal Family.

July proved a difficult month for the McCanns. Three of their Tapas friends were reinterviewed in Portimão on Wednesday July 11, 2007. Gerry McCann returned to London the same day as a guest of Gordon Brown and Prince Charles at the Police Bravery Awards sponsored by the Sun Newspaper. Gerry tried to disguise this because in his blog he didn’t mention who had invited him and he entered the blog entry on Thursday July 12, 2007. The event took place on the evening of July 11 – the previous night. Gerry’s presence there was to meet with Brown and Prince Charles. Note: Many websites have repeated this error and reported Gerry’s presence in London as taking place on the Thursday.

In early August, the British police took the cadaver dogs to Portugal and arranged to search properties occupied by the McCanns. This resulted in some incriminating finds that were subsequently disclosed in the media in the first week of September. This was a time of maximum heat for the McCanns. Press coverage was at fever pitch and the case had turned on its head. Now the McCanns were public enemy #1 and the Establishment spin looked like it wasn’t working. Upon fleeing Portugal on Sunday September 9, 2007, we saw signs of the Establishment’s influence on British soil. Special Branch escorted the McCanns home from East Midlands Airport and the Masonic big gun lawyers enter the scene. Kingsley Napley had represented General Pinochet and HRH Princess Michael of Kent. The press speculated that Kingsley Napley’s Michael Caplan QC was helping the McCanns because he was successful in defending Pinochet against extradition to Spain although the real reason was that they were ordered by the Establishment.

The heat didn’t die down in September. The McCanns feared prosecution and they were looking for some monumental change in direction. For all the power plays shown in the previous four months, the Portuguese police were diligently carrying out their homicide investigation. The damning witness statements from the Gaspars had been deliberately delayed [after ‘internal’ directives] and Portugal was still unaware that McCann and Payne had been described as possible sexual perverts by their doctor friends from Birmingham. The main problem with the case from the McCanns’ point of view was their adversary: Inspector Gonçalo Amaral.

While the McCanns were sweating out the summer of 2007, something was developing in England: the Inquest on the death of Princess Diana. The spotlight was about to turn on the British Royal Family once again. Al Fayed and the Daily Express was adamant that Diana had been murdered by the Royal Family. The Inquest was set to start and the Royals could not have Gerry McCann upset the apple cart. On October 1, Prince Charles entered the fray once again. A press release claimed:

AN anonymous tip-off to the Prince of Wales has sent UK police on an urgent hunt for a new suspect in the Madeleine McCann case.

The email – sent via Prince Charles’ website – claimed a disgruntled former employee of the Portuguese resort where the toddler went missing, could be behind her disappearance. It claimed Madeleine was abducted from the Praia da Luz apartment in revenge against the complex’s owners.

It is understood police have confirmed the woman named in the email did work at the resort when Madeleine was last seen 150 days ago. Royal aides have passed the email on to Scotland Yard, which is now trying to trace the author.

A police source told London newspaper The News of the World: “There have been hundreds of Madeleine theories, sightings and tips sent into UK cops from members of the public. But this one is different. “It’s incredibly detailed and so far, from the inquiries being made in Portugal, it appears to be based on factual events.”

Police believe that the tipster entrusted the information to Prince Charles because he and wife Camilla came out in support of Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry.

In the biggest power play of the Establishment so far, their next move demonstrated to Gerry just how far they could operate. The British Establishment arranged for Gonçalo Amaral to be sacked on the day the Inquest on the death of Princess Diana commenced.

Unknown at the time, the public waited for months in expectation of a result from the Forensic Science Service. It never came. It was buried and destroyed. Once the investigation was on British soil there was no way the Establishment would allow the incriminating evidence to see the light of day. Not until the public could see the police file in the summer of 2008 would we realize that the FSS participated in a monumental cover up. But then this was par for the course. The same forces that manipulated the Princess Diana evidence were at work here.

The McCanns were all smiles come April 2008. They were not part of the rogatory interviews and instead of staying close to home and Leicester, they set off for the European Parliament on their pretendy Amber Alert campaign. The key date here is April 7, 2008. This is the day that the Princess Diana Inquest returned a verdict:

Diana and Dodi were unlawfully killed by the “grossly negligent driving of the following vehicles and of the Mercedes” adding that additional factors were “the impairment of the judgment of the driver of the Mercedes through alcohol” and “the death of the deceased was caused or contributed to by the fact that the deceased was not wearing a seat-belt, the fact that the Mercedes struck the pillar in the Alma Tunnel, rather than colliding with something else.

Beyond April 2008, the Royals were under no more significant threat from Gerry. They had played their part in helping to keep the McCanns from prosecution and the threat hanging over their heads vanished once the Inquest returned that famous verdict. It is sad but true that the power of the British Establishment can cover up death as easy as it can take a life.

Today, the dead girl found on the Sandringham Estate was finally identified as 17-year old. Sadly, there will be little help from the Royals. USA Today reported

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment saying it is a matter for the police.

In 1995, Davies was hired as Operational Unit Commander in charge of Royal Protection for HM The Queen and the Royal Family. He was responsible for Palace and Personal Protection throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide. He inherited a command size of 450 personnel and a total resource budget of £26 million. Davies spectacularly shot himself in the foot with his nonsensical comments in support of the McCanns. But, of course, he was a Royal protector during the time Lady Diana died. Read more (here).

Introduction
These documents relate to an occurrence which describes the disappearance of a minor of British nationality, MADELEINE BETH MCCANN daughter of GERALD PATRICK MCCANN and KATE MARIE HEALY, on the date with three (almost four) years old.

According to the Time and Place, the facts occurred on the day 3 of May of 2007, in a temporal hiatus, understood to be between 21H05 and 22H00 (being certain that after 17H30, only GERALD and KATE had contact with MADELEINE) at the resort named ‘Ocean Club’, located in Vila da Luz, Lagos, place, where the minor’s family, along with seven other persons, with whom they had a friendship relationship, where enjoying some holidays, with the duration of one week.

The arrival of the group from England, at national territory, via Faro’s airport, took place on the 28 of April 2007.

They traveled in two separate groups, since they live in different locations. The trip from the airport to the place of Luz was done in a mini bus, provided by the resort management company ‘Mark Warner’.

Upon check-in, they were placed into several apartments, all located in block G5, next to each other, which was an imposition, or at least a suggestion, made by the entire group.

They were all lodged in the ground floor, except the PAYNE family (David, Fiona and Diane Webster), which was lodged in the first floor.

The MCCANN family was given apartment G5A, which is located on the left end of the residential block (seen from the front) and therefore, it can be said, the most accessible one and with facilitated visibility from the outside.

This is a group where seven of the elements are medics, from various specialties, which adds to the fact that all of them have under-age children, which accompanied them. The MCCANN family was composed of the parents, as well as MADELEINE and the twins SEAN and AMELIE, these being two years old, at the date of the facts.

This trip was organized by the PAYNE family, namely by the male element of the couple, DAVID ANTHONY PAYNE, who had knowledge, as a user, of the tourist resorts that belong to the “Mark Warner” company.

The group shared among themselves a friendship that existed before this trip, based on professional relationships and other holiday trips.

It is pointed out that this was the first time that the elements of the group were on holidays at this resort on national territory for the first time, and that the group’s will to carry out the trip was planned approximately one month before it took place.

On the other hand, nothing indicates that any of the participants had any previous connection to Vila da Luz or that there resided or stayed any person related to them.

The group’s daily routine implied their movement, for dinner, to the Tapas Restaurant, which is located at the resort (although outside of the specific area of the apartments and without permitting a complete visual control of the latter), while their underage children remained alone – supposedly asleep – in their apartments while the dinner was under way.

According to the group’s common version, the checking of the children was done through regular visits by the adults to the apartments, with an – approximate – spacing of half an hour, with the exception of the children of the PAYNE couple, that possessed a technological system of self control, via intercommunication (“baby listening”).

The aforementioned persons were interviewed carefully and in great detail, on various occasions (see index), with the intention to collect all the relevant elements that could help the investigation to uncover the truth regarding the facts.

The analysis of the grouping of these inquiries emphasized the existence of important details which were not entirely understood and integrated, which needed to be, from our viewpoint, tested and compared together [concatenated] in the actual location.

As such, a concrete understanding of the lack of synergy of some aspects of elevated relevance should be attempted through a processed diligence via the reconstitution of the facts, which, due to a lack of collaboration of several relevant witnesses, was not able to be accomplished, in spite of all the force brought by the authorities.

Further ahead, in this report, the necessity of this diligence will be better analysed.

The investigation, during more than 13 months, followed all the credible indices related to different hypotheses and, in an impartial manner, continued to analyse, correlate and synthesize them, looking for an explanation for the happenings of the night of 3 May 2007.

Assuming that the minor’s disappearance was due to the acts of third parties, the PJ explored various lines of investigation, not excluding any hypothesis considered plausible or hypothetically acceptable.

From the documentation, you will observe that during the investigation various possibilities were contemplated.

As such, consider:

1. abduction, for sexual exploration or other (e.g, later adoption, child trafficking, organ trafficking), without homicide;

2. abduction, followed by homicide with (or without) hiding of the corpse;

3. accidental death, with later hiding of the corpse;

The Hypothesis 1 and 2 were considered in the double notion of the illicit of abduction (if that happened) that could have had occurred due to feelings of revenge by the
Kidnapper(s) towards the parents (intended abduction) or by taking merely the opportunity of the child being at a vulnerable situation (opportunity abduction).

As a remote hypothesis, the possibility of the minor leaving the apartment by her own means was explored – that would be highly unlikely physically – and after, because of an accident or by a third person intervention, she would have disappeared.

As to the present report, and for a better understanding, it will be divided in to 5 major areas, to know:

- Generic diligences for the localization of the minor, entwined in the main body of the Inquest, done by the Judiciary Police, the Maritime Police and the G.N.R.;

- Thematic Appendixes, in a total of nine (sub-divided into 55 volumes) referred to the fls. 3528-a, whose creation allows to complement the main body of the processes and to follow up all the information received and treated;

- The suspicions about ROBERT MURAT, and his status of arguido;

- The Cadaver Dogs Units searches and the subsequent establishment of the parents of the British minor, GERALD MCCANN and KATE HEALY as arguidos;

- The forensic and laboratorial exams, done at the Forensic Science Service and at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, from now on designated as the FSS and INML, correspondingly;

Even though there is this division in to sub groups, the present report will be done by order of occurrence or information, without the obstacle of joining by themes, when the chronological order it is not sufficient.

As stated before, it was done a presentation of the intervenients in the process and a brief introduction of the facts. Following, we will do a more detailed explanation, where, likewise, the various intervenients will match and the actions done by them will take on a procedural relevance.

Relative to the appendixes, in a total of nine, where divided thematically as stated:

Appendix I – Forensic Exams – where all the exams and forensics that were carried out by scientific and technical entities, specifically those who are destined to the detection, collection and traces analyses that could lead to the understanding of what happened and to the discovery of the culprits in the disappearance of the minor.

Appendix II – Analysis of communications – where all the inventory, analysis and pertinent correlations, which were possible and eventually relevant about the communications and movements that were made before, during and after the facts, were made;

Appendix III – Inspections, canine, maritime and air searches – where the specific diligences that were carried out in an attempt to physically locate the minor, especially in the surrounding areas, are described;

Appendix IV – Searches/apprehensions, direct exams, delivery/deposit of goods – where the set of diligences that were directed on goods or items that could eventually be connected to the disappearance are listed;

Appendix V – Supposed sightings and localizations – where the news that had some credibility and signalled the alleged presence of the child in various locations worldwide, as well as the hundreds of diligences that were carried out to confirm or dismiss them, are listed.

As it is known, the disappearance of the British minor, under the circumstances that were described, implied the action of diverse entities, with special relevance for the intervention of the Polícia Judiciária, which was joined by other forces of criminal police. In parallel, this disappearance concentrated an unmatched dynamics from the media, both national and foreign, namely and with more emphasis in the United Kingdom, which filled, for days in a row, their news at prime time with live transmissions from Praia da Luz, and special programmes that were dedicated to the issue.

Some of the information did not merit, due to the circumstances surrounding it, the least credibility, leaving those, at the other extreme, which required a more solid and effective systemization and treatment. Those which, by their geography and time-space relevance, seemed credible were thoroughly explored and included in the documentation and this appendix.

There remains a large, diffuse stain of supposed sightings and localizations – some receiving notable emphasis, such as those in Belgium and Morocco – which had few, vague, discordant, incompatible or incongruent elements, which deserved a treatment with a view towards their infirmação or set aside for the future, should solid elements arise, which all are herein included;

Appendix VI 1 – Information/Lists of Suspects of Sexual Crimes – where you will find a detailed reviews, from the perspective of the possibility of encountering correlations with suspects with sexual motives;

Appendix VI 2 – Diligences and Exploration of Information related to the aforementioned – in which, in conformity with that already expressed and in order to provide a better consultation, were gathered the information collected about residents in the surrounding areas – temporary and permanent – as well as a listing of local crime (break-ins and others) and crimes of a sexual nature. The information provided came to this Police by individual knowledge, through British authorities or by other sources;

Appendix VII – Letters Rogatory – outlining the diligences performed, at the request of the Portuguese judiciary, in foreign countries;

Appendix VIII – Transportation, Movement and Location of Sightings – in this appendix are collected and analyzed the information related to possible means of transportation/flight, by land means (road—trains), sea and air. Also explored were information related to the delivery of photographs from individuals in the area for holidays and obtained by the Police, along with various hotel chains, whose examinations yielded nothing useful;

Appendix IX – Juridic Actions

In addition, and in spite of its irrelevance, there were meanwhile added 22 “dossiers” with notifications of a speculative or clearly incredible nature, such as psychic visions or divinations, which will not be included with the documentation, but which you will find carefully organized, in the eventuality that they may need to be consulted in the future.

DEVELOPMENT

The present documentation originated from a process elaborated by this Police, having received notice of the disappearance of a minor of British nationality of three years of age. The occurrence was communicated by the GNR at 00h10 on 4 May 2007.

According to that police force, the disappearance would have occurred at 22H40 (later on it was verified that the detection and the subsequent alarm of the same, in reality happened, between 22H00 and 22H10 of the day 3 of May of 2007, in one of the apartments of the tourist resort ‘Ocean Club’, located at Vila da Luz, Lagos, where a family composed by a couple and 3 children under aged were staying.

Topologically, the apartment is composed by two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom, with easy access to the street, from the both the front and the back, where there is a small balcony and a sliding door.

At the time of the disappearance, the children were alone in the apartment. However the couple, during dinner, went two times to the same, one of those times being the one where the mother (KATE) noticed that her oldest daughter was no longer there alerting all for that fact.

Aware of this fact, the police squad went to the place, to initiate the relevant investigative steps, at that moment.

Immediately they proceeded with the identifications of the progenitors, GERALD MCCANN and KATE HEALY, as well as of the disappeared minor, MADELEINE BETH MCCANN, born on the 12 of May of 2003, in the United Kingdom. Besides MADELEINE the couple has two more children, twins, with two years old, at the time of the facts, who were also staying in the same bedroom from where the child disappeared.

Informally, GERALD MCCANN said that he was on the resort since the 28 of April 2007, on vacation, for a period of time corresponding to a week. The day after their arrival, 29/05/07, they started doing their meals at the ‘Ocean Club’ restaurant, which is distanced a few meters away from the apartment, with the company of three other couples, who had also travelled with them.

Specifically to what is relative to the day 3, he alleged that:

- they woke up around 07H30, had breakfast in the apartment, going out at around 09H00;

- soon after, they left their children at the nursery, until 12H30;

- around 14H30, after lunch, they put their children back at the nursery, this time until 17H00;

- at 17H30 they did the children’s hygiene, and settle them in their respective beds by 19H30, all in the same bedroom;

- at 20H30, the couple went out to the restaurant;

- at 21H05/21H15 the father went to check the children, noticing that all was normal, the window and the blinds were closed, however the door to the room seemed more opened than when he had left;

- at around 9.20 p.m., a friend from the group, JANE TANNER, when heading for her apartment, noticed an individual who carried a child in his arms, walking down the road. She described him as aged 30 to 40, with dark hair and wearing light coloured trousers;

- at 9.30 p.m., it was the time for another friend, MATTHEW OLDFIELD, to go to the MCCANNS’ apartment to check on the children, but he only saw the twins, given the fact that he did not enter the room. In order to see MADELEINE’S bed, he would have to go inside. He detected nothing out of the ordinary;

- at around 10 p.m., when KATE went to the apartment she verified that MADELEINE had disappeared, and that the window and shutters of the bedroom were open.

Apart from that, and according to what was established within the investigation in the meantime, the witness MATTHEW OLDFIELD assumes that, at around 8.55 p.m., he went near the outside of the window of the bedroom where MADELEINE was sleeping – a window that was closed – in order to verify if there was any noise in the inside that might indicate that the child was not asleep. He heard nothing, therefore concluding that everything was well.

Due to its relevance, on that very night the Maintenance Director, SILVIA BAPTISTA, was asked for a list of the resort’s guests and the check outs on the 3rd, as well as the identification of the crèche workers, where the children stayed during the day.

It should be emphasized that the entire apartment had been searched and rummaged by an undetermined number of people, with the contamination that it brings and the difficulty that it raises for the collection of residues.

On that very night, the surroundings of the apartment, and Vila da Luz itself, were intensely searched through, both by the GNR members and by members of the public.

Concerning that and other searches on subsequent days, the proof is given by the report that was written by the GNR from pages 3491-a to 3525-a, with the latter being a cartographic remission. The same procedure was made by the Maritime Police, according to the report from pages 3867 until 3885.

On page 06 the air registration of the luggage pertaining to the MCCANN family was appended, as well as the passport that belongs to the missing minor.

From pages 12 to 23, we can observe the photographic coverage of the location of the facts, which were collected on that night, as well as a layout of the apartment.

On page 26 the report that was written by the GNR can be found, on page 30 the photograph of the minor that was given by the parents, taken from a memory card and revealed on a printer that belongs to one of the nannies, as will be seen further on, and the press communication, on pages 33-B.

It should be pointed out, in terms of the media knowledge and divulgation, that witness RACHEL MAMPILLY, at around 2 a.m. on the morning of the 4th, assumes to have contacted the official British television BBC, through someone that she knew, reporting the disappearance and asking for it to be broadcast.

First thing in the morning on 4 May, and already within the framework of heavy media coverage, an interview of the entire group took place, pages 34-83, interrogations which were repeated later.

From pages 86 to 118, there are included details relative to the identity of the nannies (CATRIONA BAKER and STACEY PORTZ) and all the officials of the establishment, with the two that dealt with the MCCANN children being heard informally; nothing unusual having been reported by them, they were formally interviewed again later.

In subsequent days, with the participation of over a hundred researchers from the PJ, the enormous collection of diverse notifications about the disappearance was reviewed, having been already completed innumerable contacts resulting from the ongoing processing of information.

The collection of notifications was transmitted by a wide variety of sources, coming to the PJ by various means, requiring the installation of a permanent police post within the Luz village.

The result of such efforts is found in the documentation and the various appendices, having been spent thousands of hours of work in its completion.

It should be noted, also, the receipt of an enormous quantity of fantastical notifications, devoid of any credibility, which forced the research into constant and considerable clarification efforts, all the more important as it was known that time was of the utmost importance in the fundamental goal of finding the missing girl.

Resuming the factual description, it is noteworthy that from pages 119 and forward, the witness JEREMY WILKINS, affirmed that he saw an individual with a strange appearance and behaviour. This was eventually confirmed to be a guest, who participated in the searches, page 124.

From pages 127 and following, relates the the sighting of a child, with a face similar to MADELEINE’s, in a gas station. When the images from the gas station were shown to the parents, they peremptorily affirmed that they did not represent their daughter.

On page 134, is reported a situation, once again resulting from physical similarities with MADELEINE, later verified as not being the child. In addition, an attempt was made to locate an individual referred for sexual abuse of minors, later coming to verify that at the relevant time period, he was no longer in Portugal.

There was a inquest to DENISE BERYL ASHTON, fls. 136, which reported the presence of two individuals, who she could not identify or recognize, which, alleged that they were conducting a petitioning in behalf of a children’s institution, which would be fraudulent. Despite that this situation took place on the day 03 May, we could not relate it with the disappearance of the British minor, nor the description corresponds to the sketch widespread in the media by the press officer of the MCCANN couple, issue that will be addressed next .

From the Fls. 140 to 144, it was reported an alleged sighting of the minor, which, after several diligences, was proved, again, to be another child.

A witness, DEREK FLACK, heard at page 200, reported the presence of a suspect, who was allegedly looking at the target apartment, near a white truck, pages 145 and following pages. It was not possible to identify this person, despite having been made a portrait-robot, page 205. However, we believe there are very strong possibilities of being construction workers – who were there making small works – a gardener (fls. 973), or BARRINGTON NORTON (fls 833), inquired at page 704. The latter is a regular of Praia da Luz, engaged in the activity of musician on the streets of the town. Nothing was found relevant to the investigation.

From the page 161 to 197, NUNO JESUS, reported a situation connected with his daughter, with clear similarities with Madeleine, which was the victim of an alleged attempt to kidnap (qualified by himself) by a Polish couple, whose registration of the hire car and used in national territory, he provided to the police. They were approached when going back to their native country, nothing was detected that could incriminate them, pages 214 to 216. The car and the place where they had enjoyed their holidays was analysed in a laboratory, but once again without incriminating results

It was near the report at page 148, where it’s described the approach door-to door taken in 443 houses, all of them in Praia da Luz, which is demonstrative of the gigantic work that would be carried out. Such approach included the physical entrance, with the agreement of the inhabitants, in many just to verify completely the eventual presence of traces of the minor disappeared.

LANCE PURSE, inquired at page 208, did equally a sketch of an individual, page 210, which possessed similar characteristics similar to the one related by another witness, who also didn’t identify himself.

At pages 211 and 212, it is reported another occurrence relative to an individual referenced for sexual abuse of minors, who, after the approach of the same, nothing of relevance was brought to the present investigation.

“Mutatis mutandis”, [literally "changes changed", from Latin, in this instance someone who changes constantly of mood], relative to a guest from the female gender, who revealed a odd behaviour, but with no vector of correlation to the disappearance of MADELEINE MCCANN.

At page 220 the hearings of the resort employees started, from there nothing resulted as being relevant or useful for the investigation at course. From the hearings there were no elements collected which allowed to follow any line of investigation.

Information was also collected that the road known as A22, usually known as “Via Infante de Sagres”, does not have images available either, to match the period of time that would be of interest.

Diligences were carried out to try to locate and discover the routines of individuals that are related to criminal practices of a sexual nature, pages 293 to 300, 448 to 451, 452 and 453; nothing was discovered that could be characterized as relevant.

From pages 309 to 311, and because it could be important, we mentioned the only register of a repair that was carried out in the apartment that was used by the MCCANN family, without major relevance.

The situation concerning the first suspect, ROBERT MURAT, will now be approached, thus following a line of the succession of the facts, without prejudice of returning to the description of occurrences further ahead.

A few days after the facts took place, suspicions were raised concerning an individual that resides approximately 100/150 metres away from apartment 5A, identified as ROBERT JAMES QUERIOL EVELEIGH MURAT.

These suspicions arose initially due to the formulation by a British journalist, who found the special commitment and curiosity of MURAT in this case to be strange, which had reminded her of another [case] that had taken place in the United Kingdom with similar outlines and where the guilty persons had actively participated in searches.

The reasons for said suspicion are duly listed within the information that is contained in the process, on pages 308, 328, 442, 461, 957, 960, 961 and 986 to 1000, being certain that they ended up being reinforced, some time later, by elements of the holiday group that asserted, contrary to what MURAT said, that he had participated in the searches on the evening of the disappearance.

In an initial phase, before the investigation was deepened, this individual gathered the conditions to be pointed out as a suspect. The conditions that are intrinsical to his suspect status, can be analysed, as stated before, on the routine reports that were mentioned above.

In order to confirm or dismiss the suspicions about ROBERT MURAT, searches and telephone surveillance were requested, pages 995 to 1013, both on the suspect and on the individuals with whom he directly or indirectly interacted, namely with who he met almost daily and maintained telephone contacts.

Despite the exhaustive and methodical investigation into MURAT and the persons close to him, no elements whatsoever were collected to relate him to the crime that was under investigation, and it should be noted that contrary to what witnesses within the group stated concerning his hypothetical participation in the searches on the night of the disappearance, other witnesses (like SILVIA BAPTISTA and elements of the GNR) asserted that they had not seen him during those diligences.

Beyond the communication interceptions and forensic exams of the computers belonging to them, which pointed to nothing useful, several searches were also performed in the suspect’s home, as mentioned earlier, with cino-technical assistance and exploration of the subsoil, both physically and by technological detection means, which also did not allow for the collection of exact evidence.

Be aware that, in relation to the utilization of very advanced technological means, in the area of the detection of strange bodies in the subsoil or enclosed [walled in], these were performed specifically by technicians from Aveiro University, using equipment that allowed a detailed search of the area.

This [research] continued in the same way in relationship to all the vehicles of the group, with no results.

The homes and vehicles were examined in great detail by the Scientific Police Laboratory, without finding any relevant vestiges.

The analyses of the telephone and electronic communications (reports in appendix II) and the resultant correlation, had the same results.

In the interrogation headquarters, the suspect denied any involvement with the process. The interviews with all the elements, with personal and professional relationships with ROBERT MURAT, also did not deliver anything of value as evidence.

In truth, in the unfolding of the searches, several objects were apprehended, for later analysis, without having obtained any incriminating evidence, which you can better observe in Volume V of the documentation, where the processual pieces related to the searches are found.

Returning to the sequence of information which has some relevance related to finding the minor, there came forth information about the presence of a sack [bag] near a cliff in Ponta da Piedade, Lagos, pages 316 to 327, whose contents revealed nothing of importance.

Page 463, reveals information related to an individual who spoke in Castellean, whose involvement was not able to be discovered.

Pages 524 to 531, 740 to 749, provide information about supposed sightings of the minor, all of them disparate amongst themselves.

On page 800, the interview with TASMIN MILBURN SILENCE is presented, who saw on two occasions and on several other days, an individual observing the apartment from which MADELEINE disappeared. A photo-fit was created based on the witness’ indications . . . diligences were performed which led to the identification of MICHAEL ANTHONY GREEN, who was the target of diverse diligences without incriminatory results, pages 632 to 726 of Volume III, Appendix VI. Beyond this individual, there were other diligences performed at this level, also without useful results for the investigation, as is explained throughout Appendix VI.

On pages 886 and following, a typed report can be observed, which was elaborated by the holidaying group after a detailed joint meeting, that recalls that steps that were made on that evening, describing the facts both in time and space.

On page 993, there is a report listing the apartments that were subject to searches, with special attention on blocks 4 and 5.

On pages 983 and 984, the preservation, for visualization purposes, of images from several petrol stations was requested, but nothing out of the ordinary was observed, page 3191.

On pages 1101 and following, several pieces of information from Interpol are listed, alerting towards supposed sightings of the minor, in several European countries, but absolutely nothing was found.

Diverse information concerning other suspects of crimes of sexual abuse of minors and paedophilia, page 1246 and following, which, after due analysis, did not contribute with anything of interest for the investigation.

On page 1398 there is an answer to the question from page 1400, informing that there are no other images from the GALP station, apart from those that were already delivered.

On page 1592, a divulgation, appealing to the person who on the 3rd of May 2007, at around 9.30 p.m., in Praia da Luz, transported a child in his arms, to identify himself, in order to dismiss the situation that was narrated by witness JANE TANNER.

Further on this issue, the testimony of MARTIN SMITH was considered, pages 1606 and following, reporting the sighting of an individual carrying a child, in one of the streets that lead to the beach. It was said that the child could be MADELEINE McCANN, although it was never peremptorily stated. Some time later, the witness alleged that, by its stance, the individual who carried the child could be GERALD McCANN, which was concluded when he saw him descending the stairs from an airplane, pages 2871, 3991 and following and 4135 and following. It was established that at the time that was being mentioned, GERALD McCANN was sitting at the table, in the Tapas Restaurant.

The workers that carried out construction works in Vila da Luz were heard, pages 1650 and 1651, who did not detect anything strange, during their works of excavation and placement of plumbing (also see pages 3983 to 3987), although they carefully verified, on the day that followed the disappearance and before they started the works, if there was a body hidden next to said works.

From pages 1811 to 1827 we appended two lab tests and the corresponding reports, which turned out to have no evidential interest for the process.

On pages 1846 and following, a situation of fraud was reported, concerning misleading and fraudulent information relating to the whereabouts of MADELEINE McCANN. This individual, who was the author of the fraud, was detained, and confessed to know nothing about the facts, after detailed and pertinent diligences were carried out by the authorities of the Netherlands, within the frame of a Rogatory Letter. The main report, which comprises the diligences that were requested and carried out by the Dutch Police can be found in the corresponding appendix.

On page 1897, a Spanish journalist was heard, who was to have information about the alleged abductor. Once again, nothing was supplied that allowed for the substantiation of such suspicions.

An attempt was made to obtain identification elements from users of computer equipment in two establishments in Luz, which was not possible, as explained on page 1900.

On page 2006 and forward, is found the report of an identical occurance to one that had happened in Holland, coming to be found to pertain to, once again, untrue information about the child. With the prestigious collaboration of the Spanish authorities, Grupo de Sequestros de Madrid, it was possible to identify the couple responsible for the false information, with only the male being detained under the auspices of an outstanding detention mandate.

Now the question related to the performance of the British dogs will be covered, along with the consequent quality assumed by the parents of MADELEINE, once again with the ability to revisit the description later in the report.

In this way, from pages 1989 and following, one can read the full report by MARK HARRISON, whose specialty is the search for missing people or homicide victims, including catastrophe scenarios. He provided the use of canines, specialized in the detection of vestiges of human blood and human cadaver odor.

This is an inspection technique commonly used in the United Kingdom, frequently with positive results, consisting of the utilization of two especially trained dogs.

One of the dogs is trained to detect cadaver odor and the other to detect vestiges of human blood, with existing knowledge that their prior usage had resulted in significant results, principally in the detection of vestiges, which had then been, later, confirmed in the laboratory.

After a positive joint meeting with the British police, it was decided to use this capability and a large number of objects and locations were examined, with these diligences being recorded in films which are included in the documentation (appendix III).

In some of these locations and objects, the animals exhibited the behaviour of identification and “signaling”, including:

* NOTHING was detected by either dog;

9. In all the vehicles that were used by arguido ROBERT MURAT and persons that are close to him;

* NOTHING was detected by either dog.

(in a total of ten vehicles, the cadaver odour dog and the blood odour dog only signaled the vehicle that belonged to the MCCANN family, which was rented on the 27th of May)

On the locations and the pieces that were marked and signaled by the blood dog, forensics tests were performed, especially at a reputed British laboratory (Forensic Science Service – check Appendixes I and VII – FSS Final Report) but also, some of them at the reputed National Institute of Forensics Medicine (check Appendix I), whose final results did not corroborate the canine markings, which is to say, cellular material was collected that was not identified as pertaining to anyone specific, and it was not even possible to determine the quality of that material (v.g. whether it could be blood or another type of bodily fluid).

But during a first scientific approach (pages 2617 and following), the possibility of a match between the DNA profile of MADELEINE and some of the collected residues (among which those that existed in the Renault Scenic that had been rented by the McCANN couple were abundant) was raised; a match which, as can be verified in the aforementioned final report from the FSS, failed to be verified, after the execution of long and complex testing.

On pages 2461 and following, the translation of the comments that were made by the dog handler, during the inspection actions, was appended.

Based on the action of the canine team and the aforementioned initial scientific approach, which revealed the possibility of the existence of a cadaver inside the apartment and in the vehicle that was used by the MCCANN family, and in order to allow for GERALD McCANN and KATE HEALY to see their position within the process safeguarded, they were made arguidos, in face of the mere possibility of their involvement with the possible cadaver. During the questioning as arguidos, they denied any responsibility in the disappearance of their daughter.

It may be questioned that KATE HEALY was not immediately made an arguida, but rather inquired, as a witness, and only afterwards, following said inquirition, did she assume that quality.

Therefore, the constitution of KATE HEALY as an arguida was made when she was confronted with concrete elements that might lead to her incrimination, a fact that, within the terms of the penal process law, would officiously force that constitution.

Returning to the description of the pieces of the process, on page 2294, there is a note of the delivery of four (04) photographs, which were printed by an employee of the resort, AMY TIERNEY.

pages 41 and 42

Page 4193, she clarified that the photographs were made on her own printer, which allowed her to use photographic paper and cut to size (10×15), which in this way, reduced any suspicion related to her possession, on the part of the parents.

Nonetheless, before her interview, the photographs were examined, as related on pages 4155 and following, and pages 4197, in which it is alleged to not be possible to determine with complete confidence if the printer is compatible with the photographs, but it seems to us, by the laboratory results (merely indicative) that these photographs were printed there.

On pages 2305, 3195 and 3212 is the detailed report, relative to the laboratory exams done on the apartment from where the disappearance occurred, which took place on 4 May 2007.

On page 2327, is the report of the exams of the home and some of the vehicles of ROBERT MURAT and, on page 2348, the report of the exam of the car belonging to SERGEY MALINKA, an individual of interest given his relationship with ROBERT MURAT, not having been uncovered, however, anything of a criminal nature.

On pages 2360 to 2371, is the report of the vehicles belonging to LUÌS ANTÒNIO, with whom, also, ROBERT MURAT had an acquaintance. Nothing suspicious was found.

On page 2383, is the report of the exam done in the apartment retained by the Polish couple and, on page 3230, the detailed report of the exams done on the vehicle rented by the McCANN couple.

All of these exams, for now, allowed nothing to be inferred relative to the exact understanding of the facts.

On page 2396, is a file, which was attributed an inquiry number, which alludes to a supposed sighting. This occurrence was duly discarded, after several diligences, outlined from pages 2739 to 2762.

On page 2412, is the interview with PAMELA FENN, who relates several details, of which, though not clarifying the facts, are elucidating. PAMELA FENN lives on the first floor of the residential block, above the apartment occupied by the McCANN family. She related that, on 1 May 2007, two days before the disappearance, at about 22h30, she heard a child crying, which by the sound was MADELEINE. The child continued weeping for one hour and 15 minutes, until the parent’s arrival (she heard the door sounds), at about 23h45. This witness places in cause the allegation (by the parents) of the daily routine of visits every 30 minutes to check the children who had been left on their own.

She also added to the files, that her niece, CAROLE, on the morning of 3 May 2007, had seen an individual observing the child’s apartment. This individual was not identified, but could have been a gardener. An interview with CAROLE was requested in the Letter Rogatory submitted to the UK authorities, with nothing relevant having been discovered.

I recently learned from a trusted police source that the Metropolitan Police had officially taken up the Madeleine McCann investigation in London. This new line of enquiry is called Operation Grange.

Today I phoned the Metropolitan Police to ask about their taking over from Leicestershire Constabulary and had this interesting telephone conversation.

SM: Hello, I’d like to speak to someone in connection with Operation Grange please.

Police: I’m not aware of that Operation…just give me one second.

A minute later the operator returned and gave me another phone number to call.

SM: Hello, I’m just calling to ask a few questions about Operation Grange.

Police: What’s the name of that operation again?

SM: Operation Grange.

Police: Ok, what was that?

SM: It’s the Madeleine McCann disappearance.

Police: Oh, alright ok, fine, yeah, we don’t usually use operation names here, what do you need to know?

SM: There doesn’t seem to be anything in the public domain so when did the operation start and what’s the scope of the operation? I just wondered if you can give me some background on Operation Grange.

Police: We haven’t very much talked to the media about the case at all. What we’ve said is we’re providing expertise to the investigators of the case. The Portuguese Authorities, the Portuguese Police retain lead. We’ve not made any suggestion that they’re not capable of investigating but we are assisting them and we have not given any details on it. It’s unusual for us to do that as it’s abroad and another police force is taking the lead on it.

SM: Is there any reason why the Met took over from Leicestershire Constabulary?

Police: I’m not sure we said anything about it at the time – for various reasons. We can’t be seen to criticize any other force. On the 12th of May the Home Office requested that the Metropolitan Police service bring their expertise to the case and on that evening we said that we would.

SM: And is this a full time operation and what size team is working on it?

Police: As I said we wouldn’t provide a running commentary but at the very beginning we said there were 30 officers who would be deployed, er, not continually but various tasks along with workload they have on other cases, er, but we have deployed 30 officers.

SM: In a normal case in Britain it’s not unusual for the police to give an ongoing commentary as to how it’s progressing so what…

Police: …I’ve only worked here 11 years but I would say it’s not common. We give information whilst it’s appropriate to produce but whilst there’s an investigation going on and where it’s potentially murder, we say very little, we say very little. You read a lot in the press but that doesn’t come from us. We deal with about 250 murders a year and all of them are dealt with in exactly the same way in terms of how we deal with the media.

I also discussed the fact that all FOI requests made to Leicestershire Constabulary under Operation Task were coming back with a blanket “no comment” and a wall of silence. The police officer I spoke to at the Met told me to put in FOI requests to them and do not assume that they would treat them the same [as Leicestershire Constabulary].

I have to say that it was reasonably reassuring to hear that the Metropolitan Police are treating the case as “potential murder” instead of the McCanns’ nonsensical talk of abduction.

It is probably premature to expect miracles but for the first time in a British Police force we can just about hear the cops singing in tune with Goncalo Amaral.

Kevin Halligen is now set to stand trial in the US accused of defrauding a London law firm.

It is claimed he took the money to secure the release of Dutch business executives arrested in the Ivory Coast but instead spent it on a mansion.

The 49-year-old’s company, Oakley International, was employed in 2008 by Allerton-born Kate and Gerry McCann to find their three-year-old daughter, who disappeared in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.

But after six months, his contract was cancelled by the Find Madeleine Fund after he delivered little to the investigation.

Halligen, whose firm was based in Washington, was arrested in 2009 after months spent evading police.

He was found staying at the plush Old Bank hotel in Oxfordshire, where he was known under a number of aliases.

Halligen would spend most of his evenings getting drunk in the bar, witnesses said, and caused consternation over unpaid bills.

In December last year, Home Secretary Theresa May ordered his extradition to stand trial in America, but lawyers for Halligen challenged the move at London’s High Court.

However, his case fell at the first hurdle yesterday when top judges ruled he had left it too late to lodge an appeal against the extradition order.

They also dismissed claims that the tight time limit violated his human rights.

Mr Justice Stadlen concluded: “The court has no jurisdiction to entertain Mr Halligen’s appeal.”

Kate McCann this month said she was confident that her daughter can be traced after Scotland Yard was called in to review the investigation.

In Portugal, policing doesn’t operate like that.

The logo of the Policia Judiciaria - the Portuguese Police who are analagous to the British CID. This branch of the Portuguese police force became the main investigators in the Madeleine disappearance.

Their laws call for a strict judicial secrecy. This means that the police will not make the same kind of public updates that we are accustomed to in the UK. As the Madeleine disappearance unfolded in 2007, these laws seemed draconian at the time because not having updated information seemed to allow rumours and false stories to fester in the public domain.

Of course, the Portuguese judicial secrecy was not foolproof and for whatever reason, we had several leaks of information throughout that summer of 2007 and in 2008 before the case was shelved as a cold-case. The McCanns used those leaks to criticise the PJ. Their main complaint was that they themselves couldn’t speak out in public so why were unknown persons within the PJ leaking information from the ongoing investigation?

This criticism was a valid point by the McCanns but was it entirely true? More importantly, did it make any real difference?

Despite Kate and Gerry hiding behind the judicial secrecy veil in interviews, they didn’t exactly keep their mouths shut either. In Kate Healy’s latest book “madeleine”, she describes how she and Gerry met up with Freemason solicitor Ed Smethurst and their soon to be benefactor, Brian Kennedy. Kate goes on to describe her meeting in London with Scottish tycoon Kennedy on Friday September 14, 2007:

Brian was much younger than I was expecting, very relaxed and personable. He told us a little about himself. Originally from Edinburgh and married with five children, he was wealthy, obviously, but a self-made man: he had started out as a window cleaner. Then he asked me to give him an account of what had happened on the evening of 3 May. I talked for a couple of minutes before he stopped me. ‘OK, that’s enough. I’ve always believed you. I just wanted to hear it from you. That’s fine.’

So in Kate’s own words, four years down the line she reveals that she deliberately broke the laws of judicial secrecy by describing what happened on the night of May 3, 2007 to a man she had only just met that day – a comparative stranger. That’s funny: when Kate appeared on many interviews, she would refuse to tell the interviewer how she knew that Madeleine had been abducted because Kate would claim that she was prohibited from doing so because of “the investigation”.

In the BBC’s Panorama documentary aired on November 19, 2007, Smethurst appears in the documentary and he effectively reveals that Kate and/or Gerry have broken the judicial secrecy laws:

…part of the reason why we’re here disclosing evidence to you today as opposed to keeping our powder dry is a recognition that there were two strands to this case…

Whether Smethurst was officially hired by the McCanns as their attorney, Smethurst had no right to disclose anything his clients or acquaintances had revealed to him, and certainly not to a television programme aired in public to millions of viewers.

There are other examples of the McCanns’ double standards in respecting the judicial secrecy laws but the general point is that Kate and Gerry used those laws in ways that suited them. If a negative leak came out they would jump all over the PJ. Clarence Mitchell served as their amplifier in this regard and we can famously remember him claiming “the gloves are off” after a leak in 2008 when the McCanns visited the European Parliament. Leaks about Murat and Malinka didn’t seem to evoke any responses from the McCanns. Of course it wouldn’t – the heat was off them in those kind of leaks!

A Leicestershire Constabulary badge. This county police force in England is entrusted with the so-called continuing Madeleine McCann investigation. Four years after the disappearance the public is none the wiser as to any kind of progress in the case. Is it really a long term cover-up being dragged out while it masquerades as a bona fide investigation?

On the whole, the Portuguese system doesn’t seem so bad. In the UK, a veil of silence descends on a case when someone is charged and the case is declared sub judice. Even in prolific crime cases, the police will only divulge what they want the public to know and there really isn’t that much difference between the two systems.

But what then of the British police with the responsibility of investigating the Madeleine disappearance? Leicestershire Constabulary are entrusted with that task, and, quite literally, the case file at police HQ in Enderby, Leicestershire is called “Operation Task“. The Leicestershire police were the obvious choice of investigating law enforcement because that is the county where the McCanns live.

Have Leicestershire Constabulary fared any better with public liaison and handling the media with regular updates on progress in the case?

That has to be a resounding NO! To date, Leicestershire Constabulary have:

• Allowed the key suspects (Kate and Gerry McCann) to be on first name terms with the investigators.
• Allowed MI5/MI6 to accompany them in meetings with the Portuguese police.
• Allowed the key suspect (Gerry McCann) to retrieve unknown DNA from his home to send to Portugal for DNA testing.
• Allowed Kate’s aunt to retrieve DNA samples (and who knows what else!) to send to a quack in South Africa (Danie Krugel) with a Heath-Robinson contraption that he imported to Portugal without passing through customs (Was this part of the charade used to send an item or items to the McCanns that would have been intercepted had it gone straight to Portugal from the UK? Krugel could quite easily have been a mule…)
• Advertised the commercial money-making website “findmadeleine.com” on their own website.
• Met with Gordon Brown 3 days after the McCanns returned to England from Portugal under the pretext of a Community/Neighbourhood Policing smokescreen.
• Hidden a vital police interview from Portuguese Police after 2 doctors who alleged that David Payne and Gerry McCann were possible paedophiles only 13 days after Madeleine was reported missing.
• Not publicly mentioned the aforementioned interview where Payne and McCann were suspected of paedophilia by their doctor friends who went on holiday with them to Majorca in 2005.
• Given a police escorted ride to the McCanns from East Midlands Airport to Rothley in September 2007. (West Yorkshire police also gave Kate McCann, Michael Wright and the McCann twins an escorted ride from Leeds/Bradford Airport to Skipton in 2007).
• Refused to properly reply to legitimate Freedom of Information requests citing exemptions of either National Security or that this is an ongoing investigation.
• Never given proper updates typical of a major crime to the British public.
• Performed an abysmal job with the rogatory interviews of the various witnesses and the Tapas friends of the McCanns. In Russell O’Brien’s interview, the DVD recorder was not functioning properly and large chunks of his interview were not recorded on video. They also asked many leading questions and they did not seem to interview witnesses with a view to finding out the real truth.

Given the above, which police force has been the most secretive? Quite clearly Leicestershire Constabulary is running Operation Task like some Cold War era Stasi (German Secret Police) investigation. After four years, the public knows little about Operation Task apart from information in the Portuguese police file released in 2008 and the associated financial costs of the investigation. Given the lack of feedback it makes one wonder whether Operation Task is really a Government cover-up masquerading as a real investigation.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone because it has happened before. Former Leicester MP Greville Janner QC was implicated in a paedophilia scandal in the city of Leicester back in the early 90s. That scandal was hushed up swiftly and efficiently by the same police force. The Greville Janner case even involved the same freemasonic law firm that the McCanns used and is the location where they met Ed Smethurst and Brian Kennedy in September 2007: Kingsley Napley.

Apparently there is a law for the public and there is a different set of laws for the McCanns.

And then we have the suspected influence by Freemasons within the ranks of Leicestershire police. Another example of how freemasons in the British police reek of corruption came to light after two Leicester businessmen were awarded £85,000 compensation after being beaten up by Lancashire police. Their story illustrates the depth and depravity of the “Brotherhood” within the UK police:

…what happens to others who have run-ins with Freemasonic officers? Two Leicester businessmen found out when they decided to have a late night drink at the Goat Moat House Hotel in Blackburn where they were staying in April 1988. Sidney and Shaun Callis (father and son) were unaware they had walked into the ‘Ladies night’ organized by the Victory Lodge of Blackburn. Two Masonic Lancashire police officers approached the pair and ordered them out of the hotel bar. After refusing to leave, the couple were beaten up and then charged with assault by other Masonic police officers also present. When the two men were released on bail the following morning, they found that the hotel management had seized the Callis’ belongings demanding compensation for damage to the bar. The Hotel manager was later found to be a Mason and a member of the Victory Lodge. The Callis’ also found that the tires of their car had been drained of air and the hubcaps removed.

When their assault charge reached court the following year, the jury rejected police evidence and acquitted the pair. The Callis’ subsequently sued Lancashire Police for malicious prosecution and won £85,000 in compensation. The total pay out, including court costs, came to £170,000. However, the retribution did not stop there. Since 1989, unknown police officers put phony criminal records for Sidney and Shaun Callis on the police national computer. Another unnamed person wrote to police suggesting that Sidney Callis was responsible for murdering two people, shot dead on the Pembrokeshire Coast in 1989. He was arrested for murder and interrogated at Hinckley Police Station before being released. Leicestershire Police also made efforts to revoke Sidney Callis’s 12-bore shotgun license. As Callis told Private Eye magazine in April: “I’ve never had so much as a parking fine.”

The Home Affairs Select Committee was told that the Victory Lodge in Blackburn, whose members triggered this catalogue of retribution, is a lodge set up for police Masons.

Anyone thinking that Stasi is an exaggerated term for Leicestershire Constabulary, think again. Look at the logo for the Stasi and see the Masonic influence in the compasses at the centre of the wreath. This part of the logo is derived from the flag of the former East Germany.

The Metropolitan Police have been requested to investigate the Madeleine disappearance at a cost of millions to the British taxpayer.

Back in the summer of 2007, a media conveyor belt churned out a succession of former Scotland Yard detectives offering their expertise on the Madeleine disappearance.

A few days after the media juggernaut started rolling, former Flying Squad commander, John O’Connor appeared—initially it would seem as a supporter of the Portuguese Police—on Sky TV. His words offered some great encouragement to the police in Portugal when we saw him on May 12, 2007. O’Connor began…

“First of all I would like to pay tribute to the Portuguese police. I think they’re doing a good job…”

Five days later, he was interviewed by the Algarve’s expat newspaper the Portuguese Resident on May 17.

… O’Connor spoke of the high quality detective work in Portugal and believes that they will solve this case. He spoke of the competency and professionalism of the Portuguese police, dismissing any accusations they have faced. He outlined that they were initially responding to a missing child and not a crime and, therefore, did not think that their initial response should be criticized.

However, months later when the McCanns became suspects, John O’Connor changed his tune when giving an interview to the CBS Early Show in Los Angeles in mid-September 2007.

“You don’t have a body, you don’t have a cause of death, you don’t have any witnesses, you don’t have a confession, you don’t have a murder weapon and you don’t have a motive…
“I think all they’ve got is some arguable forensic evidence…
“If anybody thinks they can bring a murder charge with all those ingredients missing…
“The first crime scenes were not properly sealed…
“Lack of professional activity by the Portuguese investigators…
“What they have is this arguable evidence which in itself does not mean a thing…”

Former Flying Squad commander John O'Connor couldn't make up his mind whether he supported the Portuguese Police or not. In the end he toed the 'official' line and criticised the PJ with a hypocritical interview with CBS.

Considering that Mr. O’Connor did not know any more about the case than the public, he suddenly seemed to be able to deduce many facts from nothing more than rumour. Why then did O’Connor do a complete u-turn with his attitude towards the Portuguese Police? He did not say that the crime scene was not sealed off properly on May 12 or May 17 when he was so supportive of the Portuguese police. O’Connor had actually visited Praia da Luz in those early days to pound the beat so who or what influenced this man to join in the attacks on the investigators?

Next up we saw former Scotland Yard commander Mike Hames and former police dog handler John Barrett. Regarding Barrett, he appeared purely to discredit the results of Martin Grime’s dogs when they discovered the scent of death and traces of Madeleine’s blood in apartment 5A at the Ocean Club Resort in Praia da Luz. Barrett’s disinformation was amateurish and a blatant piece of spin. Hames described the investigation as a “bit of a shambles“.

In late September 2007, Dai Seaborn Davies—a former Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police—chimed in with his own brand of attacks:

“They remain convinced of her parents’ guilt, apparently unwilling to consider another scenario, even as their “house of cards” case collapses around them. Another fresh revelation that undermines the Portuguese effort is that police also failed to take DNA samples from Madeleine’s little brother Sean, two, and his twin sister, Amelie, until their parents were made “arguidos”, or suspects, just over two weeks ago. This failure has seriously undermined the whole forensic case against the McCanns. It means early forensic work is flawed and needs to be re-examined. A process that could take months.

“Evidence gathered by the Portuguese police against the McCanns which we have learned about in the past couple of weeks depends entirely on forensic tests, including DNA evidence, so-called bodily fluids and hair. Yet I have found that evidence has been fatally flawed through their own incompetence. The apartment was also not sealed off properly, meaning any evidence was contaminated from the outset.

Dai Seaborn Davies shot himself spectacularly in the foot when he stated that the Portuguese Police did not take samples of Sean and Amelie's DNA until a couple of weeks before the McCanns were made arguidos. The PJ had taken samples months before this and we would find the details in the police files released publicly in August 2008.

Dai Davies’ comments were not short, off the cuff comments. These were carefully crafted segments on TV that were designed to bolster Team McCann’s cause while, at the same time, ridiculing the “blundering” Portuguese Police. Always relying on the public’s lack of diligence in checking whether what they said was true or not, Dai Davis was proven wrong when the police file was released in August 2008. The Portuguese Police did take DNA samples from Sean and Amelie months before the date alleged by Davis.

As we have seen, four clowns—Hames, O’Connor, Barrett, Davies—had already made their minds up that the Portuguese Police were inept before they knew the details of the investigation. All were ex-Metropolitan Police.

But the clowns weren’t all from 10 Broadway. Some were from the most famous part of Westminster: Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Miliband and others.

Now we have the incumbent Prime Minister—David Cameron—making a personal request to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, to investigate the Madeleine McCann disappearance at a cost of millions to the British tax payer. The Home Office are describing this move as “ludicrous” in the next stage of the “keep-the-McCanns-out-of-a-trial-at-all-costs” charade.

It is well past the time that this charade must stop.

These games are purposely engineered by the government, MI5/6, and the police, and a new investigation will achieve nothing. The column inches devoted to alleged infighting between these groups is nothing more than a smokescreen. The prospect of a new investigation makes for a great sound-bite in 2011, but Until Kate and Gerry McCann and the rest of the Tapas Seven are forced to answer important questions in front of a jury, we may never find out what happened to poor Madeleine.

We may have a new set of clowns but it’s the same old circus.

Kate Healy/McCann launched her book in the United Kingdom on May 12, 2011—4 years and 9 days after Madeleine McCann was reported missing. Simply called “madeleine“, the book is Kate’s account of the events of that fateful day in May 2007 with a potted history of the McCann family and the events of the 4 years since the alleged abduction.

Eagle eyed followers of the Madeleine case have no doubt been dissecting every sentence of the book in the search for yet more clues as to what happened to the tiny 3-year old tot.

Meanwhile, Faked Abduction by Steve Marsden is back on sale after a second edition has recently been printed in the USA.

So how do the two books fare in terms of unraveling the mystery of Madeleine McCann?

To answer this question, it is essential to understand that the Madeleine disappearance revolves around a set of important facts that have not been satisfactorily dealt with by the McCanns and their friends who accompanied them on the holiday to Portugal. The main body of reliable evidence consists of the 11,300+ page, Portuguese police file that was released in August 2008. Additional evidence was provided by the chief investigating officer—Gonçalo Amaral—through his own personal account in his book Maddie: A Verdade Da Mentira (The Truth of the Lie.)

These important facts are the focus of Faked Abduction and are also dealt with by Kate in madeleine. Some of these issues are:

• Mrs Fenn hearing Madeleine crying for 75 minutes on May 1, 2007
• The status of the patio doors
• Madeleine’s whereabouts during the day on May 3, 2007
• The Smith family (nine people) who saw a man looking like Gerry McCann shortly before 10pm on May 3, 2007
• Jane Tanner’s sighting and the associated detail of that account
• The Yvonne Martin encounter on May 4, 2007
• The McCanns did not physically search for Madeleine on the night of May 3, 2007
• The David Payne/Gerry McCann paedophile allegations from the Gaspars

Mrs Fenn

In Kate’s book she was quite disparaging towards Mrs Fenn. Not mentioning her by name, she described the elderly tenant of the flat above apartment 5A as a woman with a “plummy voice“. Kate also admitted that she and Fiona Payne abused Mrs Fenn because of her reaction to the reason for the commotion in apartment 5A on the night of May 3.

Considering that Mrs Fenn’s testimony blows a big hole in the McCanns’ insistence that they checked their children every half hour or less, there is little wonder that Kate was so demeaning in madeleine. The Mrs Fenn issue is dealt with simply in Faked Abduction—there is a full copy of Mrs Fenn’s witness statement to police.

The Patio Doors

Early stories from the McCanns claimed that they entered the apartment through the front door adjacent to the car park and opposite the poolside tapas bar. This alibi subsequently changed when observers noticed that this would have meant the McCann children were all locked inside apartment 5A and therefore would be at risk if a fire broke out inside the apartment. The change in alibi was that the McCanns switched to claiming that they entered the apartment through the patio doors.

This aspect is not without problems and it doesn’t seem to be logical. The patio doors only lock from inside the apartment. On page 45 of madeleine, Kate claims “after the first couple of days we barely used the front door, coming and going through the patio doors and up and down the steps.” Is Kate really suggesting that each time the family left the apartment they left it unlocked with all their possessions inside? Who goes on a holiday and leaves their room or apartment unlocked like that? It makes no sense and this change in the alibi seems to be another part of Kate’s revisionist history.

Madeleine’s Whereabouts on May 3, 2007

The author of Faked Abduction is unconvinced that Madeleine was alive and well all day on May 3, 2007 and there is no cast-iron evidence to prove otherwise. Three weeks after the disappearance, a photograph—the so-called Last Photo—appeared in a blaze of glory to prove that Madeleine was alive in the middle of the afternoon on May 3. However, Faked Abduction provides evidence that the Last Photo was probably faked. Interestingly, on page 65 of madeleine, Kate stated “Fiona told me she’d spotted Ella there but not Madeleine” in reference to Fiona seeing the children from the creche at a beach activity on May 3.

The Smith Sighting

The sighting of a man carrying a small girl through the streets of Praia da Luz just before 10pm on May 3 is an important sighting because it also blows a huge hole in the alibi of Gerry McCann. For newcomers to the Madeleine disappearance, the story goes like this: A family—Martin Smith and eight others—were leaving a bar in Praia da Luz and walking back to their apartment around 9:45pm. They encountered a man hurrying through the streets carrying a small girl and their reaction was that it was a man and his daughter. 4 months later when Martin Smith was watching television back home in Ireland, he noticed Gerry McCann disembarking the Easyjet plane at East Midlands Airport while he carried his sleeping son, Sean. The sight of McCann carrying his son in the exact same way he remembered the man carrying the girl in the streets of Praia da Luz jogged his memory to the extent that he realised the man in the streets was Gerald McCann. This bombshell evidence was kept quiet from the press back in 2007 and until Amaral’s book and the police files were released in 2008, this aspect of the case was publicly unknown.

Faked Abduction discussed the facts about the Smith Sighting whereas madeleine deals with this by claiming it to be another encounter with the same man allegedly seen by Jane Tanner. A casual reader of the case could interpret Kate’s version of the Smith Sighting as being a logical extension of the Tanner Sighting. The reality is that the Smith Sighting always was a sighting of Gerry carrying Madeleine and it is something never addressed by the McCanns.

Jane Tanner’s Sighting

The detail of Jane Tanner’s sighting has changed numerous times and is flawed because of its inconsistency. One detail that has emerged in the past 4 years is that Tanner and fellow holidaymaker Jeremy “Jes” Wilkins claim to have encountered Gerry McCann in the street outside apartment 5A on the same side of the pavement as the apartment. However, McCann claims this 3-way encounter happened on the other side of the street. In madeleine, Kate addresses this but fobs it off by saying “…exactly where they were standing is not crucial” (page 71).

The Yvonne Martin Encounter

On page 86 of madeleine, Kate describes an encounter with British social worker Yvonne Martin on the morning of May 4. Only, she doesn’t mention Ms Martin by name. Again, this is another vital issue in the case that has been dismissed by the McCanns. Ms Martin thought she recognised David Payne from another case back in England and both Payne and Kate Healy refused any assistance from Ms Martin despite her professional credentials in social work. Why did Kate Healy not wish to elaborate on why this helpful lady made her feel uncomfortable? More to the point, why did Kate claim to not know “who she is or what she was really trying to achieve?” Kate has read the police file and she will therefore know who Ms Martin is and why she tried to help. Why did David Payne try to usher this lady away from lending her assistance?

No Searching by the McCanns

It is a well established fact that the McCanns never searched for Madeleine on the night of May 3, 2007. Instead, a small army of fellow holidaymakers and locals were out looking for the missing tot. This aspect is covered in Faked Abduction but in madeleine, Kate is not exactly truthful when, on page 83 she writes “As soon as it was light Gerry and I resumed our search.” The plain fact is that they never searched the previous night so how did they resume a search?

The Gaspar Allegations

On May 16, 2007 Savio and Katherina Gaspar were interviewed by British police in England in connection with concerns they had about Gerry McCann and David Payne. The Gaspars, Paynes and McCanns had all been on a previous holiday together on the Spanish island of Majorca in September 2005. What happened during that holiday caused the Gaspars to approach police with their concerns. Katherina told police when talking about David Payne:

I remember questioning whether looked at my children or the others in a different way. I imagined that he maybe visited Internet sites related to small children. I thought that he may be interested in child pornography on the Internet.

The Gaspar statements (included in Faked Abduction) are absent from madeleine. Perhaps not unsurprisingly, Kate did not want these allegations from their doctor friends, the Gaspars, to be revealed in her book.

The handwriting in the creche records for the days that Madeleine was signed into the child care facility at the Ocean Club resort offer many clues to suggest that the records are forgeries.

Prior to the McCanns’ holiday in Portugal in that ill-fated first week of May 2007, we seemed to have no independent records of Kate and Gerry’s handwriting to compare with the creche records.

However, two known examples of handwriting exist and both were supplied by the McCanns courtesy of their home videos.

The first example comes from the Christmas 2007 video where we see Madeleine handing Kate a present that bears a card with the text:

There are four examples of the word “Madeleine” in the creche records where Madeleine was allegedly signed in and signed out. The four examples do not look like faithful copies all written by the same hand but it is worthwhile looking at them together.

The other example of the name “Madeleine” comes from the Madeleine Was Here documentary made by Mentorn Media. This video was also used, in part, by Oprah Winfrey on her interview with the McCanns two years after Madeleine’s disappearance (May 2009). We catch a glimpse of Kate’s handwriting when she shows us some pictures that Madeleine drew after the family trip to Donegal in April 2007.

The picture of the train on a track may have been contemporary to the trip in Donegal in April 2007. However, there is no way to reliably know the date when Kate wrote “Madeleine – Donegal / Easter 2007″ at the foot of the picture.

As the word “Madeleine” here is clearly different to the handwriting on the Christmas 2006 gift, it is a mystery as to which version of the handwriting is the natural one.

What is interesting is that the version on the kitchen wall looks more like the four versions in Praia da Luz but even that has some basic differences. Look at the lower case “a” for example. It is consistently written the same way in “Madeleine” and in “Donegal” but it is written completely different in the word “Easter”. If anything, the handwriting looks like it has been made to match the strange writing in the creche records whereas the Christmas 2006 version looks the most natural of all.

While the creche records and handwriting analysis may not solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, it is almost certain that there is some falsification of one or more of the entries in the creche records.

A doctor’s handwriting is notoriously bad to read but in this case the writing is perfectly legible – it just lacks authenticity due to poor repeatability.

The McCanns made a televised appeal that was broadcast on Sky TV on May 7, 2007.

The appeal shows Gerry McCann and his wife Kate both sitting and facing the camera. Kate is to Gerry’s left and on the right side of the screen as we look at the pair. Initially we see both Madeleine’s parents and can notice that Gerry has his left arm around Kate’s shoulders with the fingers of his hand gripping the top of  her left arm.

Gerry is staring right at the camera. His eyes are gazed at you the viewer. He barely moves his head and the main discernible movement is from his rapid eye movement as he blinks more often than anything that would seem natural. Kate on the other hand is not gazing at anything in particular. One thing we can say for sure is that she is never giving us eye contact. Her eyes are focused on anything but the camera facing her. Every so often she quickly glances down and we can assume that she is reading from a crib sheet.

The appeal lasts for 54 seconds and it is spoken exclusively by Kate Healy. Here is a transcript of the appeal:

We would like to say a few words [pause] to the person who is with Madeleine, or has been with Madeleine.

Madeleine is a beautiful, bright, funny and caring little girl.

She is so special. Please, please, do not hurt her.

Please don’t scare her.  Please tell us where to find her or pla… put her in place of safety and let somebody know where she is.

We beg you to let Madeleine come home.

We need our Madeleine. Sean and Amelie need Madeleine and Madeleine needs us [long pause].

Please give our little girl back.

Por favor, devolva a nossa menina.

Now let’s observe this in detail.

• At the start of the appeal, the camera is zoomed out so we can see  Gerry and Kate from the chest up.
• At 5 seconds, Kate seems to stumble with a slight deviation from the script. She says “…to the person who is with Madeleine” and as she does so, Gerry is visibly troubled by this slight change. He grips her arm and at the same time he glances down and to the side in a brief but obvious show of dissatisfaction. Kate almost immediately changes the sentence and says “…or has been with Madeleine.”
• As Kate talks, the camera slowly zooms in so that her face is filling the left hand side of the frame.
• By 18 seconds, Kate is saying “please, please….” and the camera has now cut off Gerry from view.
• Just as Kate finishes the Portuguese words at the end of the appeal, the camera stays fixed on her for about 6 or  7 seconds.
• The camera now zooms out rather quickly so that by 62 seconds, we can see Gerry starting to flop his head on Kate. Kate doesn’t move or alter her position as Gerry rocks his head slightly and closes his eyes.
• At 67 seconds, Gerry, with bowed head opens his eyes to look up at Kate momentarily before closing them again and resuming the bowed head position.

Anyone following the Madeleine disappearance will have seen this scene many times. The main talking point back in 2007 was that the pair could be so devoid of emotion. Their reactions seemed fake and the absence of tears and typical involuntary facial expressions associated with the loss of a close family member were some of the main reasons that people did not believe their story. Looking at the video four years later, the impression is the same.

During a recent review of this video clip, the volume was turned up beyond a reasonable sound level and at 64 seconds a slight click could be heard. It coincided with the time that Gerry had bowed his head on to Kate. Watching this section a few times revealed that the sound was not a click. It was Gerry McCann telling his wife in barely a whisper “Don’t Talk”. This was then followed by that opening of his eyes and the sneaky look upwards at her face.

This is reminiscent of the video in November 2007 where Gerry told his wife at the end of an interview in Brian Kennedy’s home “don’t speak to whoever is calling…”

This new bombshell evidence demonstrates once again how the Madeleine disappearance was staged and in those early days how Kate Healy was controlled.

As the appeal continues, Kate occasionally looks down as if reading from a script.

When Kate seemed to stumble with a few words, Gerry had a look of disdain and at the same time he gripped Kate's shoulder while blinking as if dissatisfied.

For most of the appeal, the camera zoomed in close on Kate's face and kept her to the left of the frame.

6 or 7 seconds after the appeal ended, Gerry flopped his head on Kate unconvincingly. As he did so, he whispers 'Don't talk'.

Just after telling his wife to not talk, he opens his eyes with head bowed. Kate catches a glimpse of his eyes open and then she looks toward her husband. He immediately closes his eyes again.

Coroner Richard G. Taylor recorded an open verdict on Colin Sahlke's death due to morphine poisoning.

The inquest into his death recently revealed that he died from a morphine dose on top of alcohol in the form of approximately 12 cans of beer. The real mystery is that there was no evidence on his body of a morphine injection and his family were bemused by the cause of death.

The story was reported in Pendle Today (here) on October 11, 2010. Interestingly the Coroner Richard Taylor could find no evidence of suicide.

FRIENDS and relatives of a Nelson man who died from a combination of morphine and alcohol poisoning said they were mystified how the drug got into his system.

Mr Colin Sahlke (48), of Carr Road, was found dead in his flat by his landlord on April 19th.

Ex-paratrooper Mr Sahlke and another ex-soldier, Stephen Taylor, flew out to Portugal three years ago to help in the search for missing British four-year-old Madeleine McCann.

An inquest at the Coroner’s Court in Burnley heard from his partner of three years, Christina Ellis, who said it was clear Mr Sahlke had been drinking too much.

She said: “He tried to keep it hidden but it put a huge strain on our relationship. He’d spent time in hospital and found life very difficult.

“I ended the relationship three weeks before he died. The last time I saw him was the day before, when he was drinking in the Station Hotel. He would drink all day but only took prescribed drugs.”

A post-mortem examination carried out by pathologist Dr Zuhair Twaij found a very high level of alcohol in Mr Sahlke’s system plus morphine in his blood. He gave the cause of death as morphine toxicity exacerbated by alcohol consumption.

Miss Ellis added: “Colin never took heroin or morphine so I don’t know how that got into his system. He’d made threats to harm himself in the past and once threatened to throw himself off the multi-storey car park in Nelson.”

Recording an open verdict, East Lancashire Coroner Mr Richard Taylor said: “Somehow this drug got into his system. The normal way would be by injection but there was no evidence of a needle site.

“However, we can’t avoid the fact it was in his system. I have no evidence, though, that his death was related to an intention to take his own life.

“I’ve no doubt he had a huge tolerance to alcohol and his drinking was not accidental. The presence of morphine is unexplained and we will probably never have an explanation. When people are depressed they do things they don’t normally do.”
